Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride TreatmentFluoride treatment is valuable as both a preventative measure and as a treatment for tooth decay in any stage. As such, it is very important that you schedule regular fluoride treatments in San Ramon for all of your family at Dr. Carol Jin’s office. We are equipped to handle your entire family’s dentistry needs at our fair and reasonable prices.

In most cases, our office can complete the treatment in a matter of minutes. Fluoride in varnish form is applied to your teeth via a brush. Dr. Carol Jin will strategically apply the varnish in potential problem areas, which will help protect and improve those spots. She will also apply the varnish on the rest of your teeth and gums in order to protect them from tooth decay and plaque.

After the fluoride treatment, we may ask you not to eat or drink for 30 minutes, in order to let the fluoride take effect. Treatments using fluoride should be scheduled regularly, based on how healthy your teeth are; usually between every three, six and twelve months. At your visit, Dr. Jin will take the time to discuss how regular your treatment should be and our office will schedule appointments with you accordingly.

While the treatment only takes a few minutes, the effects are long lasting. Fluoride prevents tooth decay by coating your teeth, which guards teeth by making it harder for bacteria and plaque to attach to them. Fluoride will also guard your enamel, which keeps your teeth strong and white. If you are already experiencing tooth decay or plaque, fluoride will help by reducing the acid in your saliva and stopping its growth. Once the growth of bacteria and plaque is at a standstill, the fluoride will begin wearing the plaque off and preventing further tooth decay.

Along with treatment, our office recommends regular visits in order to check for cavities, gingivitis and other health problems relating to dentistry. You should also brush your teeth twice a day and use floss. Some patients prefer to use toothpaste that contains fluoride for daily use. This is a good practice, but does not eliminate the need for professional treatments in our office.
