Digital Impressions (New!)
Dr. Carol Jin is now offering a new digital impression machine in her San Ramon office. The new Medit scanner is designed to replace the uncomfortable and imprecise method of conventional impression taking. Learn more about Digital Impressions.
High Power Microscopes
Our practice uses high-powered microscopes to enhance the precision of patient care. Dentistry is micro-surgery. Using a microscope that is similar to the one an ophthalmologist uses enables us to create dental restorations with an incredibly precise fit and finish. You just can’t fulfill that level of care with the naked eye.
Ultrasonic Teeth Cleaning
We use ultrasonic teeth cleaning technology which uses sound energy to remove plaque, tartar, stains and bacteria from your teeth. Ultrasonic teeth cleaning can access areas below the gum line which are beyond the reach of conventional hand instruments or picks most commonly used by dentists. Ultrasonic teeth cleaning is not only more beneficial, but you should also experience less pain than other methods.
Radiographs allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes. These images enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your tooth. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs. Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health. With digital imaging, the exposure time is about 50 percent less when compared to traditional x-rays. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information that wouldn’t be seen otherwise.
Our office utilizes digital x-rays to help in the diagnostic process. Digital x-rays offer more precision than traditional x-rays because they are viewed on a computer monitor instead of a film against a backlight. This technique uses an electronic sensor that captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image is instantly viewed and enlarged to help the dentist detect problems easier. Dental x-rays are an essential, preventive, diagnostic tool that can provide valuable information not visible during a regular dental exam.
Laser dentistry is one of the latest advances in dental medicine. The laser delivers energy in the form of light. Laser dentistry can be used for both tooth and soft tissue related procedures. Dental lasers have been shown to be safe and effective for treating both children and adults. Unlike with a dental drill, laser dentistry provides no heat or vibration, making the procedure quite comfortable for most patients. For soft tissue (surgical) procedures it eliminates the need for suturing, and healing is shown to be much faster. Lasers can be used to diagnose cavities and can find hidden decay in early stages. In some cases, the decay can be reversed through hygiene and fluoride treatment and may never need filling.
Areas of dental care that benefit from laser technology:
- Cavity diagnosis and removal
- Curing, or hardening, bonding materials
- Whitening teeth
- Periodontal, or gum related, care
- Pediatric procedures
- Aphthous Ulcer treatment (canker sore)
- Frenectomy (tongue-tie release) without anesthesia or sutures
- Root canals and apicoectomies
- Crown lengthening, gingivectomy, and other gum corrections
Dr. Jin utilizes intraoral camera technology that helps enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An intraoral camera is a tiny camera – in some cases, just a few millimeters long, that allows us to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth, and gums, to accurately make a diagnosis. With clear, defined images, you see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations.
